Planning and Strategy

Before jumping into planning and implementing a cloud ERP, it is necessary to check your strategic business plans and tactical business plans. Also a proper planning group and schedule should be in place.

A strategic business plan specifies a strategy for marketing, sales, supply (vendors), production, inventory, distribution to your customers (distribution centers), and financing. It plans at least one year out. The strategic business plan will direct the tactical business plan.

A tactical business plan specifies a tactical plan for the above business functions but, for about 13 weeks out. It determines what needs to be done for each above business function on a weekly basis. If the tactical plans are not met at all, they may have to be changed or the strategic plan may have to be changed.

The tactical plan will determine the set up of your ERP.

The actuals (KPIs) of your daily ERP transactions have to be compared with the planning KPI numbers of your tactical plans. If the variance is too big, either the tactical plan has to be changed or the daily operations have a problem that needs to be fixed.

We discuss the strategic business planning and tactical business planning here.

Execution

Proper planning and strategy will help you to select and implement the right Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. I can help with the following services:
  1.  Cloud ERP selection
    1. I have done quite a lot of competitive analysis of cloud ERPs. See: https://www.intercs.site/competition
    2. I have worked on an implementation of the Acumatica ERP at a manufacturing and distributor of fabrics that used to use Sage 100.
  2.  Business Requirements Analysis
    1. I did a solid and high quality business requirements analysis for a construction company, a food service company and a manufacturer and distributor of fabrics company.
  3. Functional Requirements Analysis
    1. The functional requirements analysis provided for the above companies the  right Acumatica ERP solution. The solution features were always tested and demonstrated.
  4. Acumatica ERP installation and configuration
    1. I have installed many times the Acumatica ERP system on trial tenants so that your employees can try out the ERP, test it and learn  from it.
    2. Configuration is fully documented and discussed with your employees so that business requirements are met.
  5. Data migration
    1. Preparing data for import is a big job. I have done it so to make it easy for the client to provide the right data.
    2. Importing data has to be done right. I have planned it such that imports of data are minimized
  6. Training
    1. I have trained many people in such a way that they walk away from the training with the desire to use the ERP right away.
  7. Prototyping
    1. Transactions have to hit the right GL accounts. By documenting their current COA I made sure the transactions in the Acumatica ERP are posted to the same GL accounts as in the old system if appropriate.
  8. Testing
    1. I plan the testing in cooperation with your employees so that they are fully involved.
  9. Customization
    1. The ERP system has to meet your business requirements. Only after exhausting the Acumatica ERP features, do I propose and implement customizations with low code/no code.  â€‹
  10. Going parallel
    1. After importing the trial account balances and open vendor bills and customer invoices, I am going through the transactions with the employees so that they fully understand potential problems when comparing trial balances of the new ERP with the ones of the old ERP.
  11. Going live
    1. I commit to be at the side of the client during going live 24/7.
  12. Maintaining the ERP
    1. I have facilitated Acumatica ERP upgrades and made sure that customizations and snapshots are taken care of properly.

An example of a recommended ERP is Acumatica: https://www.intercs.site/

Monitoring

Accomodating to desired work location

Regarding work location, I am flexible. I can work at the company office, client office and/or remote. Actually I prefer to work at the client office as much as possible to ensure that there are no misunderstandings, that statements or presentations can be clarified and elaborated immediately, that an interaction can take place whenever the client or the consultant has a question, an idea, or a concern. Interaction face to face stimulates thinking, questioning and creative thinking, and engages all parties instantly. I do like to use MS Teams for team collaboration and communication so that most information is documented in the cloud, and and can be discussed via a virtual meeting at any time. This has proven to be the most efficient way for software projects to be successful.

Therefore, although I live in NJ, and like to stay in NJ, I am willing to stay for 3-4 week at the company office or client location. Then do some work at home (remotely) for 1 -2 weeks, followed by another stay at the company office or client location.

Such a schedule depends very much on the needs of the client, the project and the employer. Basically I am flexible.
